CRIMINALISING ISLAM

SOAS MSA Presents – Criminalising Islam: A Panel Discussion

Over the last decade and a half, there has been a tangible movement all across the globe towards the criminalising of Islam. This has been particularly problematic in the “democratic” west where a distinct climate of islamophobia has given rise to a number of legal measures which target the Muslim community behind the cloak of ‘national security’.

The Muslim Students’ Association has proudly convened a group of experts to discuss, interpret and analyse this pernicious phenomenon.

The event will take place in the Khalili Lecture Theatre (KLT) on Friday, November 14th at 5pm. Please be sure to reserve your free tickets early as availability will be limited. You can do so here.

The Panel will include the following speakers:

Muhammad Dilwar Hussain – Prominent Muslim Journalist, Deputy editor of 5Pillarz.com and frequent contributor to the Huffington Post.

Abdullah Al-Andalusi – Prominent Muslim debater, media personality and senior researcher with the Muslim Debate Initiative (MDI).

Hamja Ahsan – Social justice advocate, brother of former detainee extradited to the US, Talha Ahsan, and campaign director at FreeTalha.org.

Sheikh Sulaiman Ghani – Imam, TV Presenter and prominent member of the Justice for Aafia (Siddiqui) Coalition.
