British Resident Shaker Aamer and his family went to Kabul in Afghanistan in June 2001 to do charity work. In October 2001, Kabul was bombed and Shaker’s family escaped. Like many others, Shaker was betrayed to Afghan warlords and on November 24th 2001, he was abducted and then sold for a bounty to the US. He suffered cruel abuse and torture in US custody in Bagram and Kandahar, in the presence of UK agents. In February 2002, he was transported to Guantanamo, where he has been held for over eleven years without charge or trial. His health is of great concern and he suffers abuse every day in Guantanamo, including beatings and solitary confinement in absolute denial of all his human rights.
Please join us to mark this day and to demand Shaker Aamer’s release and return to his home and family in the UK.
